Beginning June 17, 2021 Researchers’ World at Mill River Park will offer three one-day thematic workshops exposing students to the concepts of sutainability, consumption, recycling, materials science and more. Students can sign up for one, two or all three workshops.
There is no cost to participate in Researchers’ World at Mill River Park. The Collaborative provides all materials, supplies, lunch and a snack. Transportation to and from the Park is not provided.
Students will learn the processes and importance of the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. They will explore where everyday items come from and where they go when we’re done with them. In addition, students will test popular renewable energy sources – solar, wind and hydropower – and explore the impact of carbon emissions on the environment.
A Sticky Situation
Students will explore the natural world of adhesives through experimentation. They will learn how chemical bonds form and function, where they occur in nature, and how to use to make our lives better.
The Skin You’re In
Students will learn how humans and animals alike have skin and hair that play vital functions in their lives. Repelling water, insulation, and sanitation are just some of the concepts that will be explored through both human and animal perspectives.
The Sustainability Workshop will be offered on the following dates and times.
June 17 8am – 4pm
June 18 10am – 6pm
More workshops will be scheduled in the Summer and Fall.
What precautions are you taking for COVID-19?
Safety is our top priority, and we comply with all state guidelines. Students will have independent workstations that are appropriately distanced from each other. Supplies will not be shared during activities and everyone will be required to wear masks. Most activities will be held outdoors and the number of participants in each session is limited to allow for ample social distancing when indoors.
