Artist Talk with Israel Acosta

February 23 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Artist Israel Acosta will connect with the community through this intimate art talk about his art currently on display in the SEED art gallery, located in the Richmond Hill Riverwalk.

Israel Acosta, a self-taught contemporary artist born in Puerto Rico to Dominican parents and raised in New York. Israel’s work explores socio-economic disadvantages in contrast to mass consumerism, using striking symbols that invite viewers to pause and reflect on his thought-provoking narratives.

Raised by a single mother, Israel witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by minorities. His art captures the working-class dream of ambition and perseverance, where taking on odd jobs is seen as an effort to provide a better future. Through his paintings, Israel examines this ideology, using logos like GE, Tiffany, and Saint Laurent to highlight how luxury items are often perceived as markers of success in working-class communities.

Israel’s vibrant color palette reflects his Hispanic heritage, blending deep cultural influences with powerful social commentary. Based in New York, he currently works out of his studio in Yonkers.

This free event is for ages 18+.
